Rank your TOP M2 singers – that inspire you the most.

For me, musically: Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington. Chris is so freaking powerful somehow he keeps me motivated to keep going in M2 as I know it can get metal as hell. Chester's technique is so freaking healthy and good.

Technique wise: Marc Martel - as Queen is my favorite band ever, and their songs are so hard that the idea of being able to consistently sing them, and effortlessly, always seemed too insane or impossible! Luckily it's not!

For me it‘s Alexander Kerski, Jacob Charlton, Jeff Buckley and Serj Tankian I think? Jeff Buckley is on the list because he seems to embrace the shifts from falsetto to mixed voice

One singer I've been loving a lot recently who has a great M2 sound is Jimin from BTS. He's got such a crazy high but also light voice that it's almost androgynous, which I kinda want to achieve myself too.

For me Kellin Quinn inspired me a lot especially with newer songs him and his band produced, he's killing it in m2 and especially live these days where he's super consistent and powerful even singing old songs that were super challenging even for him. So to be able to sing songs in his range is a huge boost of confidence for me because for a time it felt not possible without eventually experiencing some strain. Also Chester of course, and Becko (Marco Calanca, former vocalist of Hopes Die Last), Becko sings so much like Chester in tone and even his use of distortion and his screams, they're fantastic, he inspires me a ton too and again being able to sing his songs feels amazing. Also Sonny Moore (skrillex) when he was making music before becoming Skrillex, he had a fantastic voice and range he soared in his high range like there was no tomorrow and it made me wanna do the same. They all weren't just singing high but doing so with such emotion and expressiveness I was like dang look what is possible there, the colors and feelings it can evoke. Also Björk, she is very dynamic and is switching between m1 and m2 a lot even embracing the break in her voice and essentially doing a yodel at times, and I love how she utilizes m2 and is belting there! Really showing that there is power in m2 as well as m1 I can just go on and on LOL

Sincerely, cornells high note chorus on every and each of his songs drove me crazy and made me get into this. Also watching his unplugged of like a stone in which he is 'micky mousing' the alone part made me think of the potential m2(dont kill me but i called it head voice at the time)  had in modern singing

Marc already knows this cause I'm kinda obsessed lol but Angra's first singer André Matos Is an M2 hero of mine

such a powerful voice even with super clean notes which require more air

impressive range but most of all impressive consistency and accuracy live

pair this with top notch melodies influenced by Brazilian music and opera background and you get one of the most original power metal bands ever!

as a kid I thought Nancy Wilson of Heart did some killer vocals on Barracuda and also Straight On.  I remember being really little and just dreaming of like walking into 4th grade and blowing the other kids minds singing something like that on the playground.  lol.  The later I got really into Led Zeppelin, and I was a huge Axl Rose fan.  I was actually able to mimic him really well using a lot of the techniques you talk about.

What's interesting and really messed me up was I started taking Opera lessons from a great Tenor singer.  I don't think he intentionally messed me up.  But we ran all exercises low to high...so me not knowing better.  I assumed you dragged your full voice up higher and higher...he'd talk about the passagio...but I only really understood it at a very artificial level. Like there's some switch or like thing I needed to shift.  But ultimately I just kept trying to get my full voice from below as high as it could stretch.  Last year I took lessons from Eli Prinson and he's great.  I got to a point where I was kind of running out of cash for weekly lessons and took a break but he helped me a lot and got me some momentum.  I realized with a little space and not working towards a weekly lesson.  What I really wanted to achieve.

I wanted less volume, the ability to as you joked about "the fantasy of singing at a campfire" and not having to yell and scare all your friends off to hit a C5 or higher.  lol.  I was getting good at metal style yelling and it was awesome to see me getting a handle on that but it wasn't sustainable for more than a verse or like part of a chorus...so I could "get to the notes" but in terms of actually singing a full song...no way.

I came here on the cusp of doing some cool shit...but full songs right now are still really freaking hard and my voice always gets super tight.  But I definitely think I'm on the right track and going through this process I think is going to really connect the dots for me.

I also love Chris Cornell (but I am an early Soundgarden guy) I don't like audioslave and really prefer Louder Than Love (1989-1990) and before as my go to "Cornell sound" and then as you know./  I LOVE Marc Martell.  I think his voice is incredible and his gift to "own" songs is almost unmatched.

Chris Cornell, Dio, Paul Rodgers, David Coverdale and Peter Steele

as a man with a rather low M1 i look for other men with low M1s who make their M2s sound so much like their M1s but just singing high and all of these men achieved it and listening to them sing high so effortlessly and full of power and connectedness fills me with life

It's Chester for me. He did some crazy vocals with his M2, and I feel joy whenever I hit any note from his songs with my M2 🦅🦅🦅 those Bb4s feel magical to hit.

I'd have to say both of those as well as David Draiman, Corey Taylor, and M Shadows

Chris Cornell and Stevie wonder are very inspirational for me, I think I love the way we get to see Cornell getting into different characters in different stages of his singing through time. Paul Rodgers is a big one too.

I wouldn’t know if he uses M2 but my biggest inspiration will always be Steve Perry
