Since a few of us are on a Journey kick. I thought I'd try a song.
I'd never practiced this song but always liked it. I definitely didn't think I'd be able to sing it way back...it sat in a nightmarish part of my range. This is 100% acapella. I am not listening with headphones to the song or it's an isolated track that I pulled my vocals out from. I went into this back room in our house that has some good natural reverb and just sang it. You'll hear me start to screw around a bit I honestly hadn't heard the song in about 10 months so I went by memory. I am not a fan of the "na na na" stuff at the end. so I didn't do it here...I just like the verses...also I didn't remember the line "now it's your turn girl to cry" so you'll hear me work the last line before it a few times just feeling the space and placement of things...then I move it up to a higher range for fun because I could tell I had it in me...so I am not glitching...a lot of times I'll keep doing a part over and over and just kind of let the thing marinate or I try and feel different things while doing it, or I try to release tension, or even morph the vowel etc.
I'll be honest too. I told this to Marc. I felt a little "frustrated" today and was going to say this to anyone working here. The stuff we are trying is HARD. So do NOT beat yourself up because you spent 30 minutes trying to sing a song that is considered "expert" level vocals and you couldn't do it. Or "man...it's been 2 days and I still suck at this"...some of this will take time. I am saying it for you. And for me.
But give yourself a break and just sing...if you keep at it. You will improve.

I tried to sing this softly and later in the recording I kind of kick in a bit with a little more aggression.
