For Samuel (my first attempt at Journey)

I listened to the isolated vocals of Steve Perry and tried to mimic his breathy entrance into his notes (I am NOT very good at it) but hopefully this will be a good counter example for Samuel of someone else trying the parts I think he was fighting with.  First 7 or 8 seconds is Samuel, then I did the two parts he was getting tight and pulling a few times to show how I try and move past the "d" in don't and the "b" in believin'...which was wear he was getting tight....I don't do it any better but it's definitely a different sound.   Figure things like this can help us discuss these tunes and what's working or not for each of us to get a global perspective on these tunes!

that's an interesting way to "slide into" the sound, I think focusing too much on consonants was killing my sound (besides the closed vowels)... I showed the problem to my voice teacher irl, and he came out with some exercises which I'm going to do daily... cause it was an instant fix after he helped me trick my brain into singing "ee" vowel with the same "space" of open vowels, I might post the exercise and the before and after soon.

thank you for sharing Richard!

you nailed that last note Rich 😎

gave it a shot in real time for you as well - I think I need to be way louder for this to kinda work but it's super late haha i might try tomorrow with a backing track and make a full proper post, see if it's any better or chestier bc that was kinda meh i think 😂

hopefully other people chime in and we can have more posts like this to keep everyone practicing 😎 I think the video uploads aren't working on comments lmao but I'll fix it soon so we can have more stuff like this more easily 💚 for now YouTube or something like that you should - or just make a separate post
