What the hell is Jacob Charlton doing in Thornhill‘s song nerv

Was listening to Thornhill‘s song nerv again and I‘m still confused what he‘s doing when he‘s rapping in the verses. He sounds like the singer from Royal Blood if he decided to rap in a nu-metal band lol. My best guess would be he‘s projecting/shouting from M2 with some cry/twang?

Wow, I really didn't expect to meet a fellow Thornhill lover here ! I try te emulate Jacob's vocals too, and I saw the band last november in Paris (killer show !!!).

To answer your question, Jacob use extensively is M2 register for angelic falsettos and singing high notes. 
During the verses of NERV, I think he alternate between M2 and some fry screams (depending of which live version you listen). If you check the notes he sing during thees verses, there is a lot of A4, G4... which indicates M2 register.


The end of the verse :

"My silver tongue killer

In the dead of night

Move away from the mirrors"

...sound like M1 notes for me (you clearly hear a change in his timber, more chesty).
